an acute purulent inflammation of the corneal periphery in which a necrotic area is surrounded by an anular girdle of leukocytic infiltration.
Cardiology A descriptive term for the histologic appearance of an abscess in infective endocarditis, which consists of a central focus of neutrophils, necrosis and bacteria, surrounded by fibroblasts and fibrosis, frayed cardiac muscle fibres and ‘round’ inflammatory cells—e.g., plasma cells and lymphocytes
