refractory anaemia

A general term for any anaemia that does not respond to therapy, which occur in myelodysplastic syndrome, iron-deficiency due to malabsorption, idiopathic acquired sideroblastic anaemia, aplastic anaemia or other conditions.

On the basis of these tests and chromosomal analysis he was diagnosed as Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) with refractory anaemia (RA).
Patient samples and DNA isolation: Forty one MDS samples including 17 RA (refractory anaemia), 4 RARS (refractory anaemia ringed sideroblast), 9 RAEB (refractory anaemia excess blast), 6 RAEB-t (refractory anaemia excess blast in transformation) and 5 AML secondary to MDS (MDS/AML) according to the French-American-British (FAB) classification were used in the study.
