recombinant Lyme test

a method of identifying infection by Borrelia burgdorferi, the bacterium that causes Lyme disease. A protein (P-39) specific to the bacterium, produced through recombinant DNA techniques and cloning in other bacteria, is the key component in the test. It causes a strong reaction in blood cells from persons with a B. burgdorferi infection.
