radappertisation

radappertisation

The administration of ionising radiation in the 25–45 kGy range to virtually eliminate the bacteria that cause food spoilage, allowing the food to be stored for long periods of time (so long as the package remains intact). So named as a portmanteau of rad- (radiation) and Appert (the French inventor and “father” of canning).
