True dermatoses of pregnancy include pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy (PUPPP), prurigo of pregnancy, intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy, pemphigus gestationis, impetigo herpetiformis and pruritic folliculitis of pregnancy.
A bit higher percentage has been reported by other authors.8,13 PUPPP was the commonest specific disorder of pregnancy accounting for 5.6% followed by prurigo of pregnancy in 12 (3.5%) cases and pruritus gravidarum (also known as intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy) in 4 (1.2%) cases.
The first attempt to classify these conditions was made by Holmes and Black in 1982-83 who classified them into: a) Pemphigoid Gestationis (PG) or Herpes Gestationis(HG), b) Polymorphic Eruption of Pregnancy (PEP) or Pruritic Urticarial Papules and Plaques of Pregnancy (PUPPP), c) Prurigo of Pregnancy (PP) and d) Pruritic Folliculitis of Pregnancy (PF).

Five (2.5%) patients had prurigo of pregnancy, 4 (2%) had dermatoses associated with Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy (ICP), 3 (1.5%) patients had polymorphic eruption of pregnancy, and 1 (0.5%) patient had pruritic folliculitis of pregnancy.
PP is also known as popular dermatitis of Spangler, Nurse's early prurigo of pregnancy, and linear IgM disease of pregnancy.

* Atopic eruption of pregnancy is a new term used to include previous nonspecific diagnoses such as prurigo of pregnancy and pruritic folliculitis of pregnancy.
Following specific pruritic dermatoses of pregnancy were searched and recorded on pre-designed proforma and analyzed: pemphigoid gestationis, polymorphic eruption of pregnancy, prurigo of pregnancy, intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy, eczema in pregnancy and pruritic folliculitis of pregnancy.
These include pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy (PUPPP), prurigo of pregnancy, pruritic folliculitis of pregnancy, pemphigoid gestationis etc.
Prurigo of pregnancy (96%) was the most common dermatoses seen followed by pruritic folliculitis of pregnancy (2%), herpes gestationis (1%) and polymorphic eruption of pregnancy (1%).
