IL16(redirected from prointerleukin 16)
IL16A gene on chromosome 15q26.3 that encodes interleukin-16, a pleiotropic cytokine that acts as a chemoattractant, a modulator of T-cell activation, and an inhibitor of HIV replication. IL-16 stimulates a migratory response in CD4+ T cells, monocytes and eosinophils; primes CD4+ T-cells for IL-2 and IL-15 responsiveness; and induces T-cell expression of IL-2 receptor.
