pro-

Prefix denoting forward, first, to, towards the front or preceding. It may or may not be a coincidence that hundreds of drug names, especially brand names, have this prefix. More than 50 of the names of those currently being commonly prescribed, start with ‘pro-’ and the practice appears to be spreading to the naming of products outside pharmacology.
