back labor

Obstetrics A popular term for the location–ie, the lower back, of pain and discomfort due to uterine contractions, which most commonly occurs with posterior presentation. See Labor.

A condition of pregnancy related to the malpresentation of the fetal head against the maternal sacrum, which causes acute back pain in the mother.
Synonym(s): posterior presentation.

back labor

Labor involving malposition of the fetal head with the occiput opposing the mother's sacrum. The laboring woman experiences severe back pain.
