posterior petrosquamous fissure

An obsolete term that once dignified a vestige of the petrosquamous fissure visible on the external face of the temporal bone at the point of union between the mastoid process and the squamous part of the temporal bone. The fissure is directed anteroinferiorly from the parietal notch to the anterior margin of the mastoid process.
