popular herbalismHerbal medicine
A term referring to an unscientific approach to using herbs and medicinal plants, in which crude and/or poorly quantified extracts are administered by untrained individuals and hobbyists.
For herbal medicine to have medical legitimacy, the herb’s purity, potency, quantity and bioavailability must be known so as to prevent over- or under-dosing potentially toxic substances.
