a proximal projection of the ulna that forms the tip of the elbow and fits into the olecranon fossa of the humerus when the forearm is extended at the proximal extremity of the ulna. The anterior surface of the olecranon forms part of the trochlear notch that articulates with the humerus. Also called olecranon process.

olecranon

The hook-shaped upper end of one of the forearm bones (the ulna) that projects behind the elbow joint, fitting into a hollow on the back of the lower end of the upper arm bone (humerus) and forming the point of the elbow. The olecranon prevents over-extension of the elbow.
