Podophyllotoxins: current status and recent developments.
* The
podophyllotoxins (etoposide and tenisopide) are derived from the May apple plant (Podophyllum peltatum).
The ARS-Mississippi team has found an efficient way to extract
podophyllotoxins, which the mayapple stores in the form of glucosides.
While, etoposide (Eto) is a semi synthetic derivative of the
podophyllotoxins, which inhibits DNA synthesis by inhibiting DNA topoisomerase II which is cell cycle dependent and phase specific, affecting mainly the S and G2 phases (19).

Podophyllotoxins: current status and recent developments.
They are semisynthetic derivatives of
podophyllotoxin, a lignan derived from American mandrake (Podophyllum peltatum L).
These are semi-synthetic derivatives of
podophyllotoxin, which is an extract from the mandrake plant.
Beside well-established anticancer drugs such as etoposide and temposide, highly cytotoxic phytochemicals such as
podophyllotoxin were included in this panel of compounds.
