placental-blood transplantation

placental-blood transplantation

The use of umbilical cord blood as a source of haematopoietic stem cells and progenitor cells to restore bone marrow function in patients whose bone marrow has ceased to form blood cells as a result of disease, especially leukaemia. The procedure has been found useful even if the donor is unrelated to the recipient.
