A term coined by an American bodybuilder and health advocate, Bernarr MacFadden (1868–1955), for the curative aspect of his physical culture philosophy, which promoted consumption of natural foods, exercise, fasting, hydrotherapy, nudism, and eschewed coffee, tea, tobacco, alcohol and drugs.
