phased array

[fāzd]
an array transducer assembly that has very thin rectangular elements arranged side by side. It relies on electronic beam steering to sweep sound beams over a sector-shaped scanned region. Beam steering is done by using electronic time delays in the transmitting and receiving circuits.

A phased array antenna is a group of antennas whose emitted signals are combined to enhance a radars ability to see objects, which it does by sending out radio waves that bounce off targets and return to the radars receivers.

The target from multiple uncorrelated directions are detected benefiting from waveform diversity to form a long virtual array, much longer than phased array radar systems with the same number of TX and RX antennas, and get lower side lobes beam pattern (stoica et al 2007).
MLCS includes four primary components: phased array antennas, integrated high performance low cost CDL radios, system controller, and a next generation Crypto system.
By relying on electronic signals instead of a rotating sweep, phased array radar is able to send out different sized beams to perform specific functions, such as an individual search beam, and others for object tracking and altitude--all in one system.
The typical ultrasonic phased array system includes phased array probe, electronics for beam steering, acquisition and imaging modules.
One of the most important components of these systems is phased array antenna because of its ability to steer the beam very fast by an appropriate inter-element phase control [1].
If the distance between elements is more than half wavelength (at higher operating frequencies), grating lobes appear, which limit the array scanning capability and make the usable bandwidth of the phased array much less than the bandwidth of the antenna.
Washington, January 18 ( ANI ): Researchers, including one of Indian origin, have recently demonstrated the most complex 2-D optical phased array ever.
The use of advanced non-destructive testing (NDT) methods, including phased array and time-of-flight diffraction, for the maintenance of the nuclear sub brought notable benefits in cost reduction and the minimisation of radiation hazard.
