Cardiology A procedure for treating mitral stenosis with immediate improvement in hemodynamics and stenosis-related Sx. See NY Heart Association classification.

percutaneous balloon valvuloplasty

The percutaneous insertion of one or more balloons across a stenotic heart valve. Inflating the balloons decreases the constriction. This technique has been used to treat mitral and/or pulmonic stenosis.
