a virus of the genus Parapoxvirus that causes pseudocowpox in humans and cattle; it is closely related to orf virus and papular stomatitis virus.

paravaccinia virus

a member of a subgroup of poxviruses that can infect humans through direct contact with infected livestock. It is related to the smallpox virus and is the cause of pseudocowpox, which produces milker's nodules.
