par locus

a locus involved in the partitioning of certain PLASMIDS into daughter cells during cell division. Such loci ensure equal SEGREGATION of plasmids for their stable maintenance. par loci are also found on bacterial CHROMOSOMES and on the GENOMES of some PHAGES.
