the female gonad; either of the sex glands in the female in which the ova are formed. Ovaries are paired oval organs approximately 3 cm long, 2 cm wide, and 1 cm thick, one on either side of the uterus, usually near the lateral pelvic wall adjacent to the anterior superior iliac spine.
