Either of two lobes of the dorsal part of the midbrain, containing primary visual centers.

optic lobe

one of a pair of lobes found as swellings on the dorsal side of the midbrain of some lower vertebrates. The lobes integrate sensory information from the eyes and certain auditory reflexes. In mammals, the corpora quadrigemina are the equivalent of the optic lobes.
