Etymology: Gk, opisthen, behind, orchis, testicle, osis, condition
infection with one of the species of Opisthorchis liver flukes commonly found in the Philippines, India, Thailand, and Laos. Carcinoma of the intrahepatic bile ducts may be a late complication. Adequate cooking of freshwater fish prevents the disease.

opisthorchiasis

Infection with the liver fluke Opisthorchis felineus whose intermediate hosts are snails and freshwater fish. The condition is commonest in the Far East, especially Thailand and the effects are similar to those of CLONORCHIASIS.
