omega threat

omega threat

An informatics term of art referring to a (data) threat so unusual and therefore unexpected that it can short circuit and bypass the Internet’s general defence system. An omega threat has the characteristics of biological viruses: they are distributed by vectors widely extant in the system, are slow to manifest, integrate themselves in the host system and mutate.
