In this as in another report, transabdominal ultrasonography was used to differentiate between normal oesophagogastric junction and functional or organic obstruction of the distal oesophagus, (25) as it provides information on oesophageal wall thickness and shows the contours of the distal oesophagus and its surroundings, which are important in determining organic obstruction of the oesophagogastric junction.
