[Hans Christian Oersted, Danish physicist, 1777–1851]
A unit of magnetic field intensity. An oersted is the magnetism that exerts a force of one dyne on a unit magnetic pole. This term has largely been replaced by the SI unit amperes per meter.

The Carnegie Road battery storage project was originally developed by Shaw Energi, which will support OErsted in the execution of the project.
His linguistic research was as remarkable as Oersted's was on physics and he was internationally acknowledged.
Professor Hans Christian Oersted from Copenhagen, who on April 21, 1820 first observed the magnetic effects of an electric current [2], proposed a clear explanation of the phenomenon discovered.
Offset at a distance behind the main magnetizer, the secondary sensing zone, point B (1) is located in a reversed field, with an H of 15 Oe (Oersted).
Cost overruns and construction delays at the Oersted, Copenhagen-based facility have accounted for more than 220 million euro (U.S.$245 million) and resulted in 300 job cuts (representing 10 percent of the total payroll).
He dates the beginning of the grid to 1820 when Danish scientist Hans Christian Oersted noticed that an electrical current flowing through a wire creates, or induces, magnetic forces in the surrounding area.
