obstetrical analgesia The use of drugs to relieve the pain of childbirth. Drugs commonly used include PETHIDINE often combined with sedatives such as promethazine, nitrous oxide and TRICHLOROETHYLENE inhalation, and anaesthetic drugs given as an EPIDURAL block.
