neuronavigation

(nū″rō-năv″ĭ-gā′shŭn)
Radiological guidance for neurosurgery. The surgeon may rely on information obtained from ultrasonic images (“sononavigation”), magnetic resonance images, PET scans, or CT data, to select tissues for excision while avoiding eloquent (speech-controlling) regions of the brain.

To ensure that the tumor could be removed without damaging any of his healthy tissue, doctors used a technique called neuronavigation, which provided detailed 3D scans of the brain that helped guide them through surgery.
To avoid harmful effects of radiation, freehand pedicle screw placement is becoming the preferred modality of fixation for a diverse number of pathologies ranging from trauma to tumors.10 Command over freehand techniques based on basic anatomy is not only essential for budding surgeons but valuable in settings where availability of neuronavigation is limited.
With the passage of years to go looking for technical aids, pre and intraoperative images, making it possible to perform a complete as possible total tumor resection or infiltrative tumor lesions those applying neuronavigation, intraoperative MRI, intraoperative ultrasound, cortical stimulation and finally the use of dye 5-amino levulinic Acid (5-ALA) and Fluorescein Sodium (FS) the latter has shown an increased range of complete resection and 6 months sobrevida (16).

Their neuronavigation system is very impressive, providing an unmatched precision in positioning the TMS coil over a specified target based on an individual's MRI scan.
"Our clinic has got into a surgical equipment emergency, which has not been seen in at least a decade," 23 doctors and nurses wrote in their letter, as quoted by Sme.Moreover, they need neuronavigation systems used for brain surgeries, having just one, older system that cannot be used for all sorts of surgeries.
Second, the development of rTMS neuronavigation techniques[42] allows the use of subject-specific functional neuroimaging data to accurately guide the placement of transcranial magnetic stimulation coils and therefore selects targets based on their relationship with specific cognitive function or its connectivity with other regions.
As for operating procedures, neuronavigation, sometimes connected with intraoperative MRI or gamma-knife radiosurgery, is specifically useful in the treatment of brainstem cavernous malformations [7,8].
Due to variations of the sphenoidal sinus, it is of great significance that the septation of the sinus is thoroughly understood in order to ensure safe endoscopic surgical approaches, especially in cases whereby intraoperative neuronavigation is abstract (Kapur et al.).
