a transitory communication between the neural tube, notochordal canal, and gut endoderm in vertebrate embryos.

Etymology: Gk, neuron + enteron, intestine; L, canalis, channel
a tubular passage between the posterior part of the neural tube and the archenteron in the early embryonic development of lower animals. It corresponds to the notochordal canal of humans and the higher animals. Also called archenteric canal, blastoporic canal, Braun's canal.

neurenteric canal

A temporary canal in the vertebrate embryo between the neural and intestinal tubes. It is the temporary communication between cavities of the yolk sac and the amnion.
