naked DNA

A purified DNA sequence with no associated proteins. An immune response can be evoked by directly injecting into the host DNA that encodes an immunogen of interest

naked DNA

DNA that has been modified to remove the proteins that normally surround it. It is used for genetic transfers and vaccine manufacture.

It was indicated that co-delivery of naked DNA E7+gp96 plasmid was immunologically more effective than E7 DNA and it could be an effective approach to induce E7-specific immune responses as a potential vaccine candidate for cervical cancer (55).
Non-viral vectors include naked DNA, DNA-liposome complexes and DNA-polymer complexes (63,64).
"Naked DNA is great, but it needs help," says Leaf Huang of the University of Pittsburgh, who is also pursuing this approach, as well as lipid and polymer-based vectors.
In mouse studies, cells that received the naked DNA produced a marker protein for a day or two before the animals were killed and examined.
"Other studies have used naked DNA," says William P.
Samant, said, "We are pleased to enhance our broad coverage of naked DNA with this specific patent in the dynamic field of angiogenesis.
Naked DNA delivery of angiogenic growth factors may be particularly attractive, since it provides prolonged production of the growth factor proteins at the site where they are needed, with a limited amount of protein escaping from that site.
This patent effectively renews and reinforces Vical's previously issued patent covering naked DNA injection into muscle or skin to stimulate an immune response systemically.
Vical's novel method for delivering genes into cells in the body is different from current medicine because it delivers DNA to the cell through a ring of genetic material called a plasmid, or "naked DNA." Naked DNA is different from other gene delivery techniques because it doesn't use viruses to deliver the genetic material -- the genes are "virus-bare" or "naked." Because naked DNA delivery does not involve administration of potentially infectiouus viruses, it avoids any negative side effects typically associated with viral-based delivery methods for vaccines or therapeutics.
* Scanning tunneling microscopes (STMs) produced images of naked DNA (135: 53) and of many organic and inorganic molecules and surfaces (135: 200).
Brown's team has developed a new test that measures the activity of chromatin, rather than just naked DNA. When the chromatin from somatic cells is dipped into a solution containing all the required components, the somatic genes are expressed and the oocyte genes remain repressed, as in the intact cell.
