National formulary a book of standards for certain pharmaceuticals and preparations not included in the U.S.P; revised every 5 years, and recognized as a book of official standards by the Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906. Abbreviated N.F.
USP
United States Pharmacopeia, a legally recognized compendium of standards for drugs, published by the United States Pharmacopeial Convention, Inc., and revised periodically; it also includes assays and tests for determination of strength, quality, and purity.
