a small branch of the inferior alveolar nerve given off posteriorly just before the nerve enters the mandibular foramen, distributed to the anterior belly of the digastric muscle and to the mylohyoid muscle.

mylohyoid nerve

A motor branch of the inferior alveolar nerve that arises just proximal to the mandibular foramen. It innervates the mylohyoid muscle and the anterior belly of the digastric muscle.
