mu·cin clot test
a test that reflects the polymerization of synovial fluid hyaluronate; a few drops of synovial fluid added to acetic acid form a clot; poor clot formation occurs in a variety of inflammatory conditions including septic arthritis, gouty arthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis.

Rope's test, string test Rheumatology A bedside test for evaluating synovial fluid–SF viscosity or 'quality' of the SF mucin clot, which reflects hyaluronidate polymerization; the further a drop of SF falls before separating–'stringing effect', the greater the viscosity, the more normal it is. mucin clot test
A test of synovial fluid precipitation in acetic acid, formerly used to determine whether inflammatory arthritis was present in a joint. Other tests have replaced it, such as the cell count, cultures, Gram stain, and crystal examination.
