moulting hormone

or

ecdysone

a hormone secreted by the thoracic gland of insects which brings about the moulting of the cuticle and subsequent growth (ECDYSIS). It raises the metabolic rate and increases the build-up of proteins from AMINO ACIDS in growing tissue.
