monkey's hand

monkey’s hand

A near-extinct term for a hand with severe atrophy of the muscles of the thenar and hypothenar eminences, which is caused by lesions of the cervical spinal cord, motor neuron disease, lesions of the ulnar and median nerves, and others; the term monkey’s hand does not appear to differ from the term cadaveric (corpse, skeleton) hand.
