Common name for members of the phylum Mollusca, although usually restricted to the gastropods and bivalves.
mollusc any member of the phylum Mollusca, including the snails (GASTEROPODS), BIVALVES, the squids and octopuses (CEPHALOPODS), and two minor classes, the Amphineura and Scaphopoda. Most possess one or more shells and have a body structure that is unsegmented, with a COELOM. Some are terrestrial, but the majority are aquatic.
