A rapid, abbreviated method for identifying cloned DNA in a culture of host bacteria.

Steps in minipreps include lysis of host cells, cutting the cloned DNA/vector with a restriction endonuclease, and running the digest on an electrophoretic gel to identify characteristic bands.
