A herb used for cirrhosis, cholecystitis, hepatitis, possibly related to its content of a flavonoid derivative, silymarin. Milk thistle has been used as an appetite stimulant, a digestive tonic, for mushroom poisoning and, topically, for psoriasis
Toxicity Milk thistle should not be used in those with liver disease
