(meth'am-fet'ă-mēn hī'drō-klōr'īd),A sympathomimetic agent that exerts greater stimulating effects on the CNS than amphetamine (hence street name, "speed"); widely used by drug abusers through oral and intravenous ("mainlining") routes; strong psychic dependence may develop. When converted to the freebase (methamphetamine) it can be smoked like crack cocaine and is referred to by various street names, for example, ice.
