metaphysis

(mĕ-tăf′ĭ-sĭs) plural.metaphyses [Gr. meta, after, beyond, over, + phyein, to grow]
The portion of a developing long bone between the diaphysis, or shaft, and the epiphysis; the growing portion of a bone.
