MC3R

A gene on chromosome 20q13.2-q13.3 that encodes a receptor for alpha, beta and gamma melanocyte stimulating hormone (MSH), the activity of which is mediated by G protein-activated adenylate cyclase. MC3R is expressed in tissues other than the adrenal cortex and melanocytes.

Molecular pathology
MC3R mutations are associated with susceptibility to obesity.
