medical disclaimerA statement made by a person, company, website or other party, which is intended to minimise or eliminate the legal liability that a party might have were a patient to take the information provided by that party and act on it as if taking advice from a health professional.
For instance, a website which implies that magnets provide some sort of health benefits may word its medical disclaimer thusly: “Because of the absence of a significant number of double-blind studies which demonstrate the medical effects of magnets, the owners of this website do not make or imply any medical claims for magnetic products. These products are not medical devices and cannot be relied on to supply medical benefits and are not a substitute for proper medical care.”
