maturity onset diabetes of the young type 7
maturity onset diabetes of the young type 7An autosomal dominant (OMIM:610508) condition characterised by diabetes of childhood or early-adulthood onset (usually before 25 years of age), a primary defect in insulin secretion and insulin-independence at the beginning of the disease.
Caused by defects in KLF11, which encodes a zinc finger transcription factor that binds SP1-like sequences in epsilon- and gamma-globin gene promoters, inhibiting cell growth and causing apoptosis.
