mas·tur·ba·tion
(mas'tŭr-bā'shŭn)masturbation
Self-stimulation of the genitals, with sexual fantasizing, in order to reach orgasm. Repetitive movement of the skin of the penis or gentle massage of the clitoris is the usual method. Over 90% of males and 75% of females are believed to masturbate at one time or another. Kinsey found that the frequency varied from three or four times a week in adolescence to once or twice a week in adult life. Urologists have long been aware that male masturbation can be beneficial but have refrained from mentioning it. Recent research has, however, brought the matter out into the open by showing that frequent male masturbation between the ages of about 20 and 50 substantially reduces the risk of prostate cancer. An equal frequency of orgasm by sexual intercourse does not, apparently, provide the same advantage.Patient discussion about masturbation
