malignant mixed Müllerian tumourA malignancy of the female genital tract (2–5% of corpus tumours, fallopian tubes, cervix, vagina and paramesonephric/Müllerian parts) affecting post-menopausal (median age 66) women, which is thought to arise in a carcinoma with sarcomatous transformation. The term carcinosarcoma (of uterus) is preferred by gynaecological pathologists.
• Carcinoma—serous, high-grade endometrioid, mucinous, clear cell, squamous, mixed.
• Sarcoma—homologous (Leiomyo/fibrosarcom(1) or heterologous (cartilage/skeletal muscle).
Metastases are often purely carcinomatous, rarely purely sarcomatous.
Obesity, prior pelvic irradiation.
