makorin ring finger protein 1

makorin ring finger protein 1

An E3 ubiquitin ligase encoded by MKRN1 on chromosome 7q34, which catalyses the covalent attachment of ubiquitin moieties onto substrate proteins FILIP1, p53/TP53, CDKN1A and TERT. Makorin ring finger protein 1 keeps cells alive by suppressing p53/TP53 under normal conditions, but stimulates apoptosis by repressing CDKN1A under stress. It downregulates telomerase and up- and downregulates RNA polymerase II-dependent transcription.
