stride in gait (usually walking or running): the interval between an event of one foot (e.g. heel-strike or toe-strike) and the next occurrence of the same event of the same foot. stride length the distance between the position (e.g. heel contact) of one foot and the subsequent position of the same foot. May also include other support devices such as crutches. Should be the same for each foot as long as movement is in a straight line (i.e. not in a curve). Usually measured in metres. stride rate the number of strides per minute.
