Physiology A self-adjusting circuit in the 'central' endocrine system, where the hypothalamic hormones are schematically represented as an 'axis' consisting of 2 circuits, the short hypothalamic-adenohypophysis–or pituitary loop and the long adenohypophysis–or pituitary-end organ loop. See Loops.
