lisp (lĭsp) [AS. wlisp, lisping]
A substitution of sounds owing to a defect in speech, as of the “th” sounds of “thin” and “then” for “s” and “z.”
lisp An anomaly in the production of ‘ssssss’ sounds (sibilants) in speech in which the tip of the tongue is protruded between the teeth instead of being placed high and close to the hard palate behind the upper front teeth. The lisp is largely under voluntary control and can be corrected by speech therapy.
