cytotoxic testingFringe diagnostics
A test that was alleged to be useful in identifying food allergies, which consisted of placing the patient’s white cells on a glass slide coated with any of a number of food allergens. It was claimed that cytotoxic testing allowed lay persons to perform simple blood tests and diagnose food and chemical allergies that caused such diverse conditions as allergies, asthma, baldness, confusion, depression, fatigue, headaches, hormonal imbalances, obesity, ulcers and many others. Cytotoxic testing was determined to be of no diagnostic value by the FDA and banned from the marketplace in the late 1980s.
