lamina dorsalis

a·lar lam·i·na of neu·ral tube

the posterior (dorsal) division of the lateral walls of the neural tube in the embryo; it gives rise to neurons relaying afferent impulses to higher centers; in the adult such neurons compose the sensory nuclei of the spinal cord and brainstem.

lamina dorsalis

(1) An anatomic term that has been used (incorrectly) for dorsolateral lamina (lamina dorsolateralis [NE3]), and alar lamina (lamina alaris [NE3]).
(2) The term correctly refers to the dorsal lamina (lamina dorsalis [NE3]).
