KIF7(redirected from kinesin family member 7)
KIF7A gene on chromosome 15q26.1 that encodes a kinesin-like protein regulator of Sonic hedgehog (Shh) pathway, acting downstream of SMO. KIF7 downregulates Shh by preventing inappropriate activation of the transcriptional activator GLI2 in
absence of ligand; it upregulates the pathway by preventing the processing of the transcription factor GLI3 into its repressor form. KIF7 is required for efficient localisation of GLI3 to cilia in response to Shh. It may also act as a ciliary motor.
